GayRomLit -first timer - Charlie Cochet
1. The list of events is
amazing. What are you looking forward to the most?
Does “everything” count as an event? I’m looking forward
to meeting all the lovely folks who I’ve been chatting with over the last year,
some who’ve become good friends. Also meeting my publishers and all the wonderful
people who I’ve had the pleasure of working with. As for actual GRL events, probably all the
mixers and parties, just because I’ll get to mingle with everyone in such a
fantastic environment.
2. Where will you be
traveling from and who will you be bringing with you?
I’ll be travelling from
Florida on my lonesome, but that’s all right, because there will be plenty of
folks to keep me company once I get to New Mexico. Wink. Why are you looking at
me like that? I was talking about keeping me company with their stimulating
conversations. Honestly, I don’t know what you
were thinking. Tsk. Tsk.
3. If you could ask an
attendee from last year one question to help prepare you for GRL what would it
be?
I suppose I would ask what
they brought away with them from that experience. Also I would maybe ask for
some tips from authors who may have been newbie’s last year that could possibly
save me from making myself look like a complete and utter crazy person-- though
it may already be too late as I’ve volunteered to lead one of the author
bowling teams. FYI, I’ll be lucky if I
don’t run myself over with the bowling ball. Any handsome fellas want to give
me a few pointers?
4. This will be my first
ever, public appearance and I'm nervous as hell. Is this your very first public
appearance or have you attended other event? If you've attended other events,
what were they like? Were you nervous the first time?
I’ve done conventions before,
but mostly small comic book conventions, and as a very low key artist doing
demonstrations and tutorials, nothing like this, and certainly not as an
author. Few people knew who I was and most likely wouldn’t see me again. I was
terrified the first time I had to sit/stand before a small crowd and talk. I’m
really grateful to have had that experience, because it makes what I’m doing
now a little easier. I’ll still be very nervous, but at least I won’t be
ducking for cover.
5. I am very quiet when I
meet new people (Oh shut up Joel I hear you snickering from here) Are you
outgoing? More reserved?
I think it depends how
comfortable I am in my environment, though generally I start off a little shy
(don’t want to go scaring the folks with my crazy just yet), but once I get talking
to people, getting to know them a little better, I become more outgoing,
especially if sugary substances or cocktails are available. Once I feel comfy,
I’m pretty outgoing. Hey, I’ve sung karaoke with the best of them. I also may
have had one too many cocktails at the time.
6. I admit, I'm going to be
like a crazy stalker fan of Rick R. Reed. Who are you looking forward most to
meeting?
Wow, there are just so many
authors I can’t wait to meet, most of whom I’m happy to stalk. That’s like
being a handed a bag of assorted sweets and being told I can only pick
one. My list of authors is long, very
long.
7. No way in hell could I
stand up and do a reading? I'd be spitting, sputtering, and turning 50 shades
of RED. Did you sign up to do an author reading?
Are you kidding? I’d be
turning red right up there with you, or most likely trying to hide behind you.
I’m still getting used to the fact that folks are reading my books! I don’t
think my heart could take it if I had to actually stand up in front of fellow
authors and readers and talk about my own writing, much less read it. I need to
start slow, like being able to sit in on author reading without turning into a
bubbling fan girl and work my way up from there.
8. What do you think readers
and other authors will be most surprised by when they meet you?
Hm. Well, there aren’t any
pictures of me online, so I suppose anything really. Maybe my height? I’m
short. Maybe that’s why most of the fellas I write about are so tall. I love
tall guys, but then at 5’1”, that pretty much makes most guys taller than me.
Also the fact that I blush easily, like all over my face. Considering some of
the steamy scenes I write for my fellas, you’d think I could effortlessly sit
there chatting away about all those boy bits and what they can do, but no,
especially if said chatting is coming from a fella. So, it’s pretty likely I
may just keel over if Ethan Day is talking in my general vicinity.
9. I hear the boys of our
genre put on a hell of a party! Do you plan to attend the Cowboy party Thursday
night?
You bet! Though there will
definitely be some swooning. I’m an East Coast city girl and have yet to meet
any cowboys. I think I’ve been a little overzealous in my planning and have
signed up for almost everything. I’m just so excited that I don’t want to miss
anything, and my preparations to get by on very little sleep are coming along
nicely.
10. Go ahead you can be
honest with me. You want to know what is under Damon Suede's Kilt don't you?
Oh, my god, you had to bring that up. I saw the picture. Hm. Okay, I might just have to stalk Damon Suede
a little more than the rest. Such a
naughty thing! You too, Jo!
The Auspicious Troubles of Chance by Charlie Cochet
Description:
Chance Irving is a young man with a
gift for getting into trouble—not surprising, as trouble is all he’s
ever known. After losing everything he held dear one fateful night, he
decides to leave New York and his past behind, and joins the French
Foreign Legion. But even in Algiers, Chance can’t seem to shake his old
ways, and he ends up being transferred to a unit made up of misfits and
rabble-rousers like him—a unit he finds just in time to be captured and
thrown into a cell with his new commandant, Jacky Valentine.
A highly respected commandant with a soft spot for hard luck cases, Jacky is the kind of guy who would go to war for you, and the three equally troubled youths from his unit he’s more or less adopted feel the same way about him. Suddenly Chance starts to think that his life doesn’t have to be as desolate and barren as the wastelands around him.
But even after their escape, with the promise of a future with Jacky to buoy his spirits, or maybe because of it, Chance can’t stop making mistakes. He disobeys orders, lashes out at the boys in Jacky’s care, and blazes a trail of self-destruction across the desert—until someone makes him realize he’s hurting more than just himself.

Thank you so much for having me, Jo! Can't wait to meet you at GRL!
ReplyDeleteI got to go to a reading once in a library. An author was reading and my cell phone went off. I forgot to turn it off as I was excited to meet my author for the first time. I was so embarrassed. Some of the authors thought it was funny. Not sure about the one reading though. LOL. I always feel like I am going to say something stupid as a reader. LOL. We don't have a lot of author things around here but; it sure is fun to go & meet ones you know or don't. Fun to hear the authors point of view. And especially their readings. Have fun at GayRomLit.
ReplyDeleteSue B
Hi Sue! Oh, no! That sounds like something that would happen to me, too. I once had to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the movie and missed the last step on the way down. Fell face first in front of the whole theater. Luckily it was a small screening, but still. Fun times. Lol. I'm too scared to do a reading. Who knows what chaos would ensue!
